Fort White High School

Summary:

Fort White High School is a public high school serving grades 6-12 with a total enrollment of 1,158 students in Fort White, Florida, which is part of the Columbia District.

Fort White High School stands out for its consistently high graduation rates, ranging from 92.1% to 98.9% over the past five years, significantly higher than the state average and the rates at nearby Columbia High School (91.3%). However, the school struggles with a higher chronic absenteeism rate of 47.2%, compared to the 54.3% rate at Columbia High School and the state average. While Fort White High School performs better than the state and district averages in some subject areas, such as Biology 1, US History, and Civics, it lags behind in others, including Algebra 1, Geometry, and English Language Arts.

Compared to nearby schools, Fort White High School has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 52.54% to 57.6% over the past three years, which is higher than the rates at Bell High School (48.33%) and Columbia High School (49.8%). Despite the higher per-student spending at Fort White High School, which has increased from $8,490 to $10,625 over the past three years, the school's academic performance remains mixed compared to the state and district averages, suggesting that factors beyond just funding may be influencing the school's outcomes.

Open Quote Fort White was one of my first schools ever. The teachers improved as the year went on. I NEVER got a test score lower than a 95%. I wish I would have had the opportunity to stay there longer and maybe even to graduate from 12th grade. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
