Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High

Summary:

Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High is a public high school located in Keystone Heights, Florida, serving grades 7-12 with a total enrollment of 1,205 students. The school is part of the Clay District, which is ranked 10th out of 68 districts in Florida and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High has a significantly higher percentage of white students (87.55%) compared to the state and nearby schools, such as Eastside High School and Hawthorne Middle/High School, which have more diverse student populations. The school has maintained a high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 86.7% to 92.8% over the past five years, which is generally higher than the state and nearby school averages. However, Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High has experienced fluctuations in chronic absenteeism, ranging from 20.4% to 46.8% over the past five years, which is an area of concern as it is often higher than the state and district averages.

While Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High generally outperforms the state average on standardized tests, its performance is often lower than the Clay District average, indicating room for improvement. The school has also seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 32.02% in 2020-2021 to 99.75% in 2022-2023, which is much higher than the state and district averages. The higher per-student spending at Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High compared to the state average may indicate that the school is allocating resources to support its students, but the school should ensure that these resources are being used effectively to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote There is no communication between parents and teachers. If your child excels in sports you better be in their political circle or there isn't a chance at all for them. No supervision at all! Very dissatisfied and dissapointed in the district and the new clay county superintendent for knowingly allowing such politics to happen even when confronted by many parents! Wish they would build another high school in keystone. We are considering a move to get a better education and a safer environment for my children and a real chance to show to show there full potential. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
