Glades Middle School

Summary:

Glades Middle School is a public middle school in Miramar, Florida, serving 1,163 students in grades 6-8. This high-performing school consistently outpaces the Broward County and Florida state averages in standardized test scores, with impressive proficiency rates in subjects like Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology 1.

Glades Middle School stands out for its diverse student population, with a racial makeup of 6.45% White, 40.33% African American, 40.41% Hispanic, and 9.11% Asian. This diversity is notable compared to some nearby schools, such as Somerset Academy Middle School and City/Pembroke Pines Charter Middle School, which tend to have a higher concentration of specific racial groups. However, Glades Middle School has seen a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 2.9% in 2019-2020 to 16.2% in 2022-2023, which warrants further investigation and intervention.

Interestingly, Glades Middle School's academic success appears to be supported by increased funding, with per-student spending rising from $7,939 in 2019-2020 to $11,017 in 2022-2023. This investment may have contributed to the school's strong performance, which often outpaces not only the Broward County district but also the Miami-Dade district in various subject areas. With a relatively low student-teacher ratio, Glades Middle School provides students with a supportive learning environment that has helped them excel academically.

Open Quote I am extremely glad that my son has completed his last year at Glades. My son was bullied and he was just overall unhappy. The school is dirty and I was forced to pack my son his lunch daily because the cafeteria food would upset his stomach. Bye Bye Glades. Please think twice before sending you kid here really. Open Quote My straight A High Achievement 7th grader was removed ( by no fault of his own) from a high achievement science class into another science class that was a full chapter behind. I came to the school for clarification on the matter multiple times & asked for a meeting to be scheduled No one willing to help us. - Multiple messages left with the 7th grade counselor & 7th grade Center. No one from the staff was professional enough to answer just a few questions about our concerns. I understand the new class size rule but this could have been taken care of in a more professional mannor. I cannot recommend this middle school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
