Coral Park Elementary School

Summary:

Coral Park Elementary School is a public elementary school in Coral Springs, Florida, serving 512 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school stands out for its diverse student population, strong academic performance, and some areas for improvement.

Coral Park Elementary has a racially diverse student body, with a makeup of 26.56% White, 29.88% African American, 35.16% Hispanic, 2.73% Asian, and 5.66% two or more races. This diversity is higher than nearby schools like Coral Springs Elementary and James S. Hunt Elementary. Academically, Coral Park outperforms the Broward County and Florida state averages in English Language Arts and Math proficiency. However, the school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 8.3% in 2019-2020 to 29.7% in 2022-2023, which is higher than nearby schools like Park Trails Elementary and Country Hills Elementary.

Coral Park Elementary's diverse student population and strong academic performance are strengths, but the school's fluctuating ranking, high chronic absenteeism, and relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (56.05%) suggest areas for improvement. The school's performance has been somewhat inconsistent over the years, and addressing the underlying causes of chronic absenteeism will be crucial to ensuring all students have the support they need to succeed.

Open Quote my child is in 2nd grade and I find that the work is not organized. The monthly, weekly, daily work is not planned enough to give to the parents, They have no textbooks to bring home to follow any lesson plans. Too many excuses. Close Quote

Open Quote This is the worse school for a child with any special need or learning delays! They do not follow through with accommodation. Their teacher only try to teach for the FCAT, they don't care about the students. If you have a child with special needs DO NOT take them to this school! They don't listen to parents and can careless about the child that needs support. The amount of homework they give every day is ridiculous as well. Just a horrible school overall for those with special needs. Close Quote

Open Quote The school is as good as the people who run it. Why does everyone there look so angry all the time? Specially the car loop ladies during drop off, they have this angry look on their face, it's unbearable! The assistant principal walks around like she hates her job and the principal is like a name, not a person. She's never actively involved with the students. Is there actually a principal at this school? A good educational institution is reflective by a strong leadership, not by names and angry looking faces. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
