McNab Elementary School

Summary:

McNab Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Pompano Beach, Florida, serving 614 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Broward County School District, which is ranked 30th out of 68 districts in Florida and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

McNab Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of White (46.09%) and Hispanic (30.78%) students. Academically, the school generally performs better than the Broward County and Florida averages in standardized test scores, particularly in Math, with a 5th-grade Math proficiency rate of 72% in 2022-2023, compared to 58% for Broward County and 55% for Florida. However, the school has a higher chronic absenteeism rate (29.0% in 2022-2023) compared to the state and district averages, which is an area of concern. Additionally, McNab Elementary has a relatively high percentage of students (55.7% in 2022-2023) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of economically disadvantaged students.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Palmview Elementary and Sanders Park Elementary, McNab Elementary generally outperforms them in academic measures, such as standardized test scores and proficiency rates. This is particularly notable for schools with similar demographic characteristics. Additionally, McNab Elementary spends more per student ($11,352 in 2022-2023) compared to the state and district averages, which may contribute to its relatively stronger academic performance. Overall, McNab Elementary appears to be a relatively strong-performing school within the Broward County district, but the high chronic absenteeism rate is an area that requires further attention and intervention.

Open Quote Bullying not taken seriously, swept under the rug and not reporting incidents to make their school look better. There is no school spirit, the administration is judgy, unwelcoming, racist and fake. They give priority and group together all the white skinny students whose parents are part of their PTA (which doesn't even have any pta events for the kids) there is no donuts with dads, muffins with moms, holiday gift shops or fundraisers. Nothing but a book fair. The School is not what it seems to be because the school fails to report incidents and what really happens on campus. Close Quote

Open Quote No privacy whatsoever! The lazy teachers have parents that volunteer at the school as well as other students stuff the "Red" folders which contain personal information as well as your child's grades. This is a weekly occurrence. Other parents will know your personal business and let me tell you, they gossip!!! Close Quote

Open Quote The current administration have driven the morale, parent participation, and test scores way down over the past 3 years. Parents are extremely concerned about not knowing how much money is collected through fundraisers and not knowing where it went. Lack of control has damaged the trust of the vast majority of parents and the community. With two children attending this school over the past few years, it's heartbreaking to witness this deterioration!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
