Wilton Manors Elementary School

Summary:

Wilton Manors Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Wilton Manors, Florida, with a student population of 572 and part of the Broward County School District, which is ranked 30th out of 68 districts in the state. The school has received a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wilton Manors Elementary faces several key challenges, including a significantly higher percentage of African American students (46.85%) compared to nearby schools, high chronic absenteeism rates ranging from 24.2% to 34.2%, and test scores that generally lag behind the Broward County and Florida state averages. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 5th grade science proficiency was 33%, compared to 52% for Broward and 53% for Florida. Despite relatively small class sizes and higher-than-average per-student spending, the school has not been able to translate these resources into significantly better academic outcomes.

While some nearby schools, such as Bayview Elementary, perform significantly better than Wilton Manors Elementary across various metrics, others, like Bennett Elementary and Sunland Park Academy, struggle with similar challenges. This suggests the issues facing Wilton Manors Elementary may be more systemic within the district or community, and addressing the root causes of absenteeism and finding ways to better support the unique needs of the student population may be crucial for improving performance at the school.

Open Quote Being new in the area we were a bit concerned with the rating of Wilton Manors Elementary. We have, however, been very pleasantly surprised. The staff and teachers have been wonderful and responsive. Our kids are enjoying their classes, and we feel they are being pushed to excel even at this early stage of the school year. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
