Breakfast Point Academy

Summary:

Breakfast Point Academy is a public elementary and middle school located in Panama City Beach, Florida, serving grades PK-8 with an enrollment of 1,058 students. This school stands out for its strong academic performance, consistently outpacing the Bay District and Florida state averages in various standardized test scores, including EOC/Algebra 1, EOC/Geometry, EOC/Civics, Statewide Science/Science, and FAST/English Language Arts and Math.

However, Breakfast Point Academy faces some challenges, including higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average, ranging from 18.3% to 28.2% over the past few years. Additionally, the school's student population is predominantly White, with a relatively lower percentage of African American and Hispanic students compared to some nearby schools, such as University Academy Sabl Inc, which also demonstrates strong academic performance and ranks among the top elementary schools in the state.

Breakfast Point Academy has seen an increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 37.69% in 2020-2021 to 47.16% in 2022-2023, suggesting a growing population of economically disadvantaged students. While the school's spending per student has increased over the years, reaching $10,631 in the 2022-2023 school year, this is higher than the spending per student at some nearby schools, such as Lynn Haven Elementary School and Palm Bay Elementary School.

Open Quote Class sizes are much larger actually both my kids have over 23 in each class. Last year was the same. They take in too many kids from other schools and overload these poor teachers. Principal and assistant principals are a joke! Dont care about the kids or you it's just a job to them and they are rude. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
