Caring & Sharing Learning School

Summary:

Caring & Sharing Learning School is a public charter elementary school serving grades PK-6 in Gainesville, Florida, with a student population of 255. The school is part of the Alachua school district, which is ranked 43 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Caring & Sharing Learning School has consistently outperformed the Alachua district and the state of Florida in proficiency rates across various grade levels and subjects, including English Language Arts and Mathematics. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's 3rd grade ELA proficiency rate was 74%, compared to 56% for Alachua and 55% for Florida, and the school's 3rd grade Math proficiency rate was 91%, significantly higher than the district's 54% and the state's 60%. However, the school's 5th grade Science proficiency rate has been lower than the district and state, ranging from 32% to 37% in recent years, compared to 50% and 53% respectively. The school has also experienced higher chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average, ranging from 18.2% to 34.2% in recent years, which is a notable area of concern.

Compared to nearby schools, Caring & Sharing Learning School's academic performance generally exceeds that of schools like Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Elementary, Idylwild Elementary, and W.A. Metcalfe Elementary, which have lower proficiency rates across various subjects and grade levels. However, the school's performance lags behind that of Expressions Learning Arts Academy, a nearby public charter school, which consistently outperforms Caring & Sharing Learning School and the district/state averages. This may be due to factors such as socioeconomic status and funding, as Caring & Sharing Learning School has a high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and its per-student spending is lower than that of Expressions Learning Arts Academy.

Open Quote Top notch family school that provides the student every possible opportunity to be successful. The student has before school and after school interventions, tutoring, intensive interventions for math and reading, and after school programs for academic and physical activity. Throughout the course of the school year the students are exposed to education based field trips including scientific experiments at the local Cade museum, inventor of Gator Aide. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
