As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote As a student who has gone to Torrington Middle School for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade I have to say it wasn’t that great to begin with and only kept going down hill. The students themselves were pretty awful to deal with since they took the greatest pleasure in making my time here miserable. I was only able to find a few diamonds in the rough that have been with me since day one and I hope to keep them with me for they proved to me to be great people. I can only count maybe five or six teachers throughout all the years I’ve been there that were actually good. One of the bad ones was a complete menace and always went after this one kid for doing very little to nothing wrong. Another teacher would get very angry with the students in his class for things happening in his own life that we had absolutely nothing to do with. Along with many teachers having toxic personalities and not teaching their classes, many students have tried to commit suicide in the school. One account I remember vividly was a girl tried to hang herself in the bathroom on the second to last day of school. I’m very glad to have graduated from that school with subpar grades and to have gotten accepted into a much better high school out of town. I still carry some bad memories and trama from being around horrible people 24/7. Anyone that goes to the school I went to I wish you the best. You’re going to need the good luck. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
