Aspen Ridge Preparatory School

Summary:

Aspen Ridge Preparatory School is a public charter elementary and middle school located in Erie, Colorado, serving 547 students in grades K-8 as part of the St. Vrain Valley School District, which is ranked 33 out of 116 districts in the state.

While Aspen Ridge has a significantly higher percentage of white students (80.99%) compared to surrounding schools, its academic performance is concerning. The school's test scores are generally lower than district and state averages across all grades and subjects, with only 27.1% of 5th graders proficient or better in CMAS Science, compared to 48.2% for the district and 37.9% for the state. Aspen Ridge's statewide ranking has steadily declined from 148 out of 938 Colorado elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 463 out of 943 in 2023-2024, with its rating dropping from 5 stars to 3 stars over this period. The school's performance is particularly low for its white student subgroup, ranking in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools in this category for the past three years.

Compared to nearby high-performing schools like Black Rock Elementary, Soaring Heights Pk-8, and Erie Elementary School, which all have over 60% proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math, Aspen Ridge's test scores are significantly lower. The school's lower free/reduced lunch rates and student-teacher ratio suggest that factors beyond just socioeconomic status and resources may be contributing to its underperformance compared to its peers.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Overall, this is an excellent school. Few disappointments-- until 8th grade science began a climate change/indoctrination section with no opposing points of view, and void of sound scientific method/analysis Close Quote

Open Quote Academically strong, but very few extracurricular activities. Kindergarten has 24 students in each class with NO assistants to help. Overall student-to-teacher ratio is much higher than what this site shows. High staff turnover each year. Can't hire a principal. School board and CEO have a "deal with it or take your kid elsewhere" attitude. Lacking facilities. Always having financial problems and use their charter status to justify the chaos that is constantly swirling at the school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
