Littleton Academy

Summary:

Littleton Academy is a public charter elementary and middle school serving 454 students in grades K-8 in Littleton, Colorado, which is part of the highly-ranked Littleton School District No. 6. This school consistently outperforms the district and state in academic achievement, ranking in the top 15% of Colorado elementary schools.

Littleton Academy's strong performance is evident across key metrics. It has significantly higher standardized test scores than the surrounding Gudy Gaskill Elementary, Hopkins Elementary, and Little Raven Elementary schools, with 73.2% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts compared to 64.3%, 57.9%, and 43.1% respectively. Littleton Academy also has a more diverse student population and a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting a more affluent community.

While Littleton Academy outperforms the state, its academic results are more mixed when compared to the highly-ranked Douglas County School District. For example, it lags behind some top-performing Douglas County schools, such as Northridge Elementary and Ben Franklin Academy, in certain subject areas and grade levels. Nevertheless, Littleton Academy's consistent excellence and unique student population make it a standout option for families in the Littleton area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Littleton Academy used to be a high performing school with outstanding teachers. Many good teachers have left and many more are leaving. The current administration is respected by very few families and teachers. The current Governing Board, recalled by over 40 of parents in a democratic process, are on their way out. The community is fractured. Kids are often bullied. Systems are broken. The culture is unpleasant. It may improved in years to come, but for now, look elsewhere in the best interest of your children. Open Quote The poorly written comment starting with, "Littleton Academy is imploding" could not be further from the truth, and should be ignored. The school has operated as well or better than ever since the Nov 2018 change in leadership, thanks to the very competent Administration, the dedication of the instructional staff (all of them), and our properly elected governing board. A handful of emotional parents, highly devoted to the former principal, have created a ridiculous mid-year disruption and used fraudulent tactics to lure unknowing parents to bolster numbers. The only egos presently causing consternation at this fine school are those in the lead of the rebellious parent group. The core knowledge curriculum and principles of the charter will prevail in the long run, and any parent will be lucky if their child matriculates here. Close Quote

Open Quote Littleton Academy is imploding. The governing board forced the resignation of their prior Principal last November, which they have the right to do in their position, but the fallout and processes since has caused this school to implode. Sadly, there is no leadership (an interim Principal who is scared of board as they are her boss) and the governing board is not properly executing their duties with fairness, competency and transparency. Over 40 of parents have successfully gather a petition for a vote to recall of the governing board. The board and attorney, Brad Miller, are stalling and now threatening to call parents who signed the petition to "see if they want their name removed". Board meetings are a public lynching for those who oppose them. Corruption and obstruction of justice are directly harming kids and teachers who are suffering the most for those unwilling to yield to a democratic process and their egos. Close Quote

Open Quote I am so proud that my son goes to Littleton Academy. The teachers and staff really are fantastic. I am very impressed with the school as a whole. Both my nieces went all the way through Littleton Academy. Those girls are the smartest young woman I know, thanks to the school. Close Quote

Open Quote This school forces classes on your child and does not let any freedom of choice come to the student at any point in the nine years. They do not allow any kids with any type of handicap. I have never seen or heard of a student with a major or minor mental disability who attended the school. Public school will be a better choice for your student. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
