Weld Central Senior High School

Summary:

Weld Central Senior High School is a public high school in Keenesburg, Colorado, serving 697 students in grades 9-12. The school's student population is predominantly White (47.78%) and Hispanic (49.35%), with a relatively high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, as indicated by the free and reduced lunch rates ranging from 25.52% to 41.81% over the past three years.

Weld Central Senior High School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Colorado high schools, with a 1-2 star rating out of 5 from SchoolDigger over the past several years. The school's performance is generally lower than nearby schools like Brighton High School and Eagle Ridge Academy, which have higher statewide rankings, better test scores, and lower free and reduced lunch rates. Weld Central Senior High School's test scores, particularly in mathematics, are significantly lower than the state averages, with only 22% of 9th-grade students proficient or better in PSAT9 Mathematics, compared to the state average of 46%.

The school's performance data suggests the presence of achievement gaps, particularly between Hispanic and White students, as well as between low-socioeconomic status students and their peers. Additionally, the school's racial diversity has become less diverse over the past three years, with the percentage of White students increasing and the percentage of Hispanic students decreasing. Addressing these challenges, including the declining overall performance and potential achievement gaps, could be crucial for improving the school's academic outcomes and providing a more equitable education for its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is an awful school. My Grand-daughter went there for two years and started getting bullied. She wasn't just bullied at school, she was bullied on the bus, on the Internet, everywhere and place. The teachers and faculity did nothing to stop it even though both she and her mother went through the proper channels, including the Principle. She was forced to eat her lunch in the bathroom. She was flunking every class. When she started writing about suicide, we withdrew her from this atrocious school and put her in the so called bad school (which is what the Principle at Weld Central called it) to Heritage, it all changed. There is no bullying at this school,no crossing the line. She has made better friends and her grades are great. She's getting A's and B's instead of D's and F's. Spewaking of a bad school, Weld Central is the one. During this past week, 5 kids have been arrested for making threats against the school. Have your kids go elsewhere but not to this school! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
