Chatfield High School

Summary:

Chatfield High School is a public high school located in Littleton, Colorado, serving grades 9-12 with a total enrollment of 1,784 students. The school is part of the Jefferson County School District No. R-1, which is ranked 35 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Chatfield High School consistently ranks among the top high schools in Colorado, ranking 45th out of 349 schools in the state for the 2023-2024 school year. The school has maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for several years, indicating strong academic performance. Chatfield High School students consistently outperform the district and state averages on standardized tests, such as the SAT, PSAT, and CMAS. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, 80% of Chatfield High School's 11th-grade students were proficient or better in SAT Reading and Writing, compared to 67% for the district and 58% for the state. However, the school has a significantly higher percentage of White students (81%) compared to the surrounding schools, such as Sheridan High School and Bear Creek High School, which have more diverse student populations.

Chatfield High School's relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 10.39% to 15.3% over the past three school years, suggests a higher socioeconomic status among its student population compared to nearby schools like Sheridan High School (52.55%) and Bear Creek High School (89.57%). This could present unique challenges in terms of addressing the needs of students from lower-income backgrounds, even as the school continues to deliver strong academic results.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Teacher development on differentiating and being creative with their instruction is vital. Unfortunately, there seems to be no imagination or real-world teaching involved (that takes work). Everything is copied from the internet with lots of busy-work not meaningful work. Sports are clicky not much room for kids who want to try different sports. Teachers have a difficult time responding to email from students and parent alike in a timely manner. Don’t be scared to advocate for your student..., you are the taxpayer receiving a public service and you deserve to have your concerns considered and timely respectful communication. I have some awful emails from a male math teacher at this school..., I am still debating if I should make them public on rate my professor and other platforms. One this is true his instruction videos are full of nonsensical music and timewasting humor (not really funny at all).
This school could be better if more teachers understood that furthering their knowledge through high level classes on pedagogy, methodology, assessment, differentiating and using real world experiences to teach the subject. Also, please do not expect students to present ‘perfect’ work when your presentations, syllabus, and assignment directions a re littered with misspellings and typos.

Oh…, and positive reinforcement and comments go a long way. Being rude and using negative or hyperbolic criticism is a No-No! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
