Kyffin Elementary School

Summary:

Kyffin Elementary School is a public elementary school in Golden, Colorado, serving 484 students in grades PK-5. As part of the highly-ranked Jefferson County School District No. R-1, Kyffin consistently outperforms state and district averages in academic proficiency, ranking among the top 2% of Colorado elementary schools.

Kyffin's academic excellence is evident across all grade levels and subject areas, with 79.6% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 78.5% proficient or better in Math, far exceeding the state and district averages. This consistent high performance has earned Kyffin a statewide ranking of 17 out of 943 elementary schools, placing it in the top 2% in Colorado. The school also excels in the performance of specific student subgroups, ranking 18th out of 684 schools for female students and 21st out of 539 schools for white students.

While Kyffin's student population is relatively homogeneous, with a majority of white students, the surrounding area is home to other high-performing public elementary schools, such as Devinny Elementary and Dennison Elementary, which also rank in the top 5% and 1% of Colorado schools, respectively. This suggests that the Golden/Lakewood area has a concentration of excellent public elementary education options, though some nearby schools serve more socioeconomically diverse student populations, raising questions about the potential impact of these factors on academic achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I love having my kids at Kyffin. My kindergartener is being challenged and she loves it. It’s the perfect amount of schooling for her! She loves her teacher and I am very pleased with the school system. My preschooler also enjoys it, and he is definitely learning lots of things! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
