Dutch Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Dutch Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school in Littleton, Colorado, serving 294 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Jefferson County School District No. R-1, which is ranked 35 out of 116 school districts in the state.

While Dutch Creek has a higher percentage of White students (76.53%) compared to nearby schools, its academic performance is generally lower than district and state averages, particularly in the lower grades. However, the school's 5th-grade proficiency rates in English Language Arts (61.4%) and Math (50%) are higher than the district and state. Dutch Creek's female and male students, as well as its White students, have lower rankings compared to other Colorado elementary schools, but its low socioeconomic status students perform better, ranking in the top 25%.

Dutch Creek Elementary has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the past several years, dropping from the top 15% of Colorado elementary schools in 2018-2019 to the middle 40% in 2023-2024. The school's relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch suggests that socioeconomic factors may be playing a role in student performance. Nearby schools like Leawood Elementary and Mortensen Elementary have similar or slightly higher proficiency rates, indicating that Dutch Creek has room for improvement to align with the performance of its neighbors.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Excellent! I moved my two girls from the school we are zoned for to Dutch Creek. Both my girls loved it! They loved their teachers and the overall culture of the school. They both felt school was "fun" this year. All of us appreciated the abundance of extra-curricular activities the school offered (esp drama club) and the chances for kids to shine (ie-talent show, DC News, the Everyday Hero essay contest, the playground grant, etc). I feel like DC really fosters an encouraging atmosphere and promotes the importance of character qualities. This is so huge! Academically, my girls thrived. My daughter was given an award yesterday for having improved in math more than 90 of other 5th graders in the nation! That was music to my ears as school has never come easy to her. This school is great!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
