University Schools

Summary:

University Schools is a public charter school located in Greeley, Colorado, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 1,771 students. The school has a diverse student population, with 54.49% White, 41.11% Hispanic, and smaller percentages of other racial/ethnic groups.

University Schools generally performs better than the Greeley School District No. 6 and the state of Colorado in various standardized tests, including CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) and SAT/PSAT. However, when compared to nearby charter schools like Ridgeview Classical Schools and Liberty Common Charter School, University Schools lags behind in academic performance. The school also has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 32.72% to 36.34% over the past three school years.

While University Schools performs better than the district average, there is still room for improvement, especially in comparison to the top-performing charter schools in the region. The school could explore strategies to further support student achievement and close the gap with the highest-performing schools. Additionally, the racial diversity of the school has become slightly less diverse over the past three school years, with the percentage of White students increasing and the percentage of Hispanic students decreasing.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children do not fit into the bell curve, so to speak. They both have IEPs and learning and health challenges. My impression from 95% of the teachers in the middle and high schools was that they didn't have time to deal with my 2 children. After 4 years of fighting battles, dealing with prejudice teachers (even special education teachers), and inadequate leadership, I pulled my children from this school. Extremely disappointing. Open Quote We have been waiting to get our child into University for several years. She was finally drawn in the lottery last year. This is an amazing school where all students are cared about and teachers want them to be a success. We are so pleased with this school. Close Quote

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
