Aragon Elementary School

Summary:

Aragon Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Fountain, Colorado, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 419. The school is part of the Fountain School District No. 8, which is ranked 85 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Aragon Elementary has a higher percentage of White (51.07%) and Hispanic (28.88%) students compared to the surrounding schools, which tend to have more diverse student populations. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by CMAS test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages across all grades and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 30.3% of Aragon students were proficient or better in CMAS English Language Arts, compared to 44.1% statewide. Additionally, Aragon has a high percentage of students (around 68%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a higher proportion of students from low-income families compared to the nearby schools. Despite having a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13 to 14.4 students per teacher, Aragon has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most years.

Interestingly, Aragon's student performance data shows that Hispanic students generally perform better than their White peers, with higher proficiency rates in CMAS English Language Arts and Math, indicating potential racial achievement gaps that the school may need to address. The nearby schools, such as Mesa Elementary, Eagleside Elementary, and Jordahl Elementary, generally outperform Aragon on academic measures, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that Aragon may benefit from learning from the instructional practices and strategies employed by these higher-performing schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I wouldn’t recommend. Some teachers are amazing. Some are not. Student support is not there, bullying is a big thing. When confronted with issue student is immediately told what they did wrong in order to add to the issue. Parents arnt met with a concern but rather also blaming the bullied student for whatever they did wrong and saying it contributes. They will also punish the said bullied parent by pulling them from recess ect. Students don’t feel supported, nor do parents. They will meet with you with more then one person while your alone and team up on you. By far my worst experience in a school as a parent, and worst for my children as students. I’m highly disappointed in the way they handle said issues. Bullying students, and partially bullying staff. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
