Lesher Middle School

Summary:

Lesher Middle School is a public middle school located in Fort Collins, Colorado, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 723 students. As part of the highly-ranked Poudre School District R-1, Lesher consistently performs above state and district averages in academic assessments, with a strong focus on gifted and talented education.

Lesher Middle School stands out for its academic excellence, ranking in the top 20% of Colorado middle schools for the past several years. The school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (60.7%) and Math (46.9%) significantly exceed the state averages of 44.1% and 34.2%, respectively. Lesher also has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic and Asian students compared to nearby schools. Additionally, the school maintains a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 18.4 to 20.1 over the past three years.

While Lesher Middle School is a high-performing institution, the data suggests opportunities for improvement in supporting the academic growth of Hispanic and low socioeconomic status students, who are underperforming compared to their peers. In contrast, the school's performance for female, male, and White student subgroups is particularly strong, ranking in the top 20% of Colorado middle schools. When compared to nearby schools, Lesher generally outperforms Cache La Poudre Middle School and Webber Middle School, though the high-performing Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School in the same district surpasses Lesher in several key metrics.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Lesher Middle school is an excellent middle school. I came in 6th grade and I have felt very supported in my years. Especially in the Covid season. The teachers are really nice and truly want you to succeed. Leshe is an Ib school so you will get a choice on what art you do (Band, Orchestra, Choir, Art) and you will get to learn a language (Spanish, German, French) I have had very supporting teachers and staff that have helped me through the hard times. I got into a bt of a funk in 6th grade and I wanted to quit everything and my orchestra teacher showed me the positive route by giving me the extra help I needed and my grades started going up. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
