Legacy Academy

Summary:

Legacy Academy is a public charter elementary school serving 415 students in grades K-8 in Elizabeth, Colorado. The school is part of the Elizabeth School District, which is ranked 43 out of 116 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

While Legacy Academy has a significantly higher percentage of white students (89.64%) compared to surrounding schools, its academic performance is generally lower than state and district averages. The school's proficiency rates in CMAS English Language Arts and Math were 33.5% and 29.3%, respectively, in 2023-2024, lagging behind the state averages of 44.1% and 34.2%. Legacy Academy has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Colorado elementary schools, with a current ranking of 537 out of 943 schools and a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance is also below average for female, male, and white student subgroups.

When compared to other schools in the area, such as Singing Hills Elementary School, which is also in the Elizabeth School District, Legacy Academy is underperforming. The lower test scores and school rankings at Legacy Academy may be related to its higher percentage of white students and lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students, as research has shown that socioeconomic factors can significantly impact student achievement. Identifying and addressing the root causes of the school's underperformance could help improve student outcomes and better serve the needs of the community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Administration staff needs to be replaced. Refuse to abide by State and Federal laws. Retaliated against 2nd grader when I brought safety concern to their attention.
Had dinner with one of the admin staff and he stated special education students were just lazy and special ed was a joke.
My sons school schedule was changed after a dog that was allowed in the school charges at my son. The dog owner is good friends with the Administration staff. My son had to come to school 15 min late and be picked up 15 min early to avoid the dog. I was told the dog stays your son can go. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
