Ben Franklin Academy

Summary:

Ben Franklin Academy is a high-performing public charter elementary and middle school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, serving 893 students in grades PK-8 and part of the Douglas County School District, which is ranked 5th out of 116 districts in the state.

Ben Franklin Academy consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Colorado, with impressive academic performance on CMAS tests, where 64.1% of students scored proficient or better in English Language Arts and 56.7% in Math in 2023-2024. The school outperforms the Douglas County School District and the state of Colorado in most subject areas and grade levels. While the school's male students and white students perform exceptionally well, its gifted and talented students rank relatively lower. Ben Franklin Academy also maintains very low dropout rates and a chronic absenteeism rate of 9.4%, which is higher than the state average but lower than some nearby schools.

Compared to nearby public schools, Ben Franklin Academy's academic performance is generally higher, with the exception of Bear Canyon Elementary and Northridge Elementary, which also demonstrate strong academic performance. However, Trailblazer Elementary has a more mixed performance. The school's relatively low percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients suggests its student population may come from more affluent backgrounds, which can be a contributing factor to its academic success.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The staff there is amazing including the front desk ladies who are the gate keepers ). My daughter started kindergarten there, I didn't enroll her in preschool there but get alot of questions about the preschool there. I personally did the tour loved the vibe for kindergarten and up but wasnt impressed with the staff for preschool. I didn't see much smiling on the first impression for preschool especially one whose really LOUD and intense when she talks to you. The tours say all when your looking at schools. Good luck! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
