As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote HGT program terrible in the upper grades. Most of the teachers appear to not really like their jobs - are not fun to be around. Principal is defensive on every occasion and doesn't care whether kids are happy or not and stonewalls when you question her - very poor leader. Close Quote

Open Quote My family has seen such tremendous change and growth in Southmoor over the years. The school looks at every child and their individual level, and has in place opportunities for them to succeed. Whether getting extra intervention if they are behind or being challenged if they are ready for it. They look at the children's individual learning styles as well. Project based learning, maker-space, enrichment programs, great use of technology. Teachers are happy and feel empowered to shape their classroom and teaching. Principal is engaging and helpful. Wonderful community... Southmoor is a great place! Close Quote

Open Quote We're all about supporting our neighborhood school - and this one makes it easy? Why? Because the entire community supports it. As a result the administration and teachers can focus on what's most important - our kids! Close Quote

Open Quote Southmoor Elementary School has been a fabulous fit for my children. They are excited to go to school and their classrooms represent the diversity we seek by attending a DPS school. Southmoor's teachers are knowledgeable, invested, and generous with their time. They want the children to succeed and they work very hard to equip the children each day. Test scores in the school are rising and you can feel a really positive energy in the building this year under the new principal. We love all of the after school enrichment classes which are offered. We have taken advantage of a lot of them. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
