Park Hill School

Summary:

Park Hill School is an exceptional elementary school in Denver, Colorado, serving 676 students in grades PK-5 and consistently ranking among the top schools in the state. With a strong academic performance that far exceeds district and state averages, Park Hill School stands out as a shining example of educational excellence.

Academically, Park Hill School is a standout, with 75.6% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, 69% proficient or better in Math, and 67.3% proficient or better in Science on the CMAS tests, significantly outpacing the School District No. 1 and the state of Colorado. This consistent high performance has earned the school a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, placing it among the top 26-46 elementary schools in the state. In contrast, nearby schools like Smith Elementary School and Hallett Academy have significantly lower academic achievement, presenting an opportunity for collaboration and knowledge-sharing to help improve educational outcomes across the district.

Another notable aspect of Park Hill School is its student demographics, which differ significantly from the surrounding schools. The school has a much higher percentage of White students (78.25%) and a lower percentage of African American (3.4%) and Hispanic (10.06%) students compared to the more diverse student populations in nearby schools. Additionally, Park Hill School has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, around 10%, suggesting a more affluent student population. These factors may contribute to the school's exceptional academic performance, but also raise questions about equity and inclusion that warrant further investigation.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Good school if you have an extremely self managing kid. Classroom sizes have ballooned to 30 per class meaning some kids can't keep up. Parents spend a significant amount of time working on homework with their kids due to being left behind in the classroom. Ratings are good primarily due to affluent population with professional parents. At this rate may as well home school as we are doing the majority of our kids education anyways. Will be looking for alternatives with smaller class sizes or private school. I will say the teachers are awesome just way too many kids and little resources for additional help (like any public school in Colorado). Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
