Kaiser Elementary School

Summary:

Kaiser Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 225 students in grades PK-5 in Denver, Colorado. The school is part of the School District No. 1, which is ranked 78 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kaiser Elementary stands out for its significantly higher percentage of Hispanic students (59.11%) compared to nearby schools like Grant Ranch Ece-8 School (14.51%) and Sabin World School (30.27%). The school also has the highest percentage of free/reduced lunch recipients at 80%, much higher than the surrounding schools which range from 5.99% to 90.67%. Unfortunately, Kaiser Elementary consistently underperforms the district and state averages in CMAS proficiency rates across all grades and subjects, with its 3rd grade ELA proficiency at just 18.8% compared to the district's 39.6% and the state's 42.1%.

The challenges faced by Kaiser Elementary appear to be systemic within the School District No. 1, as nearby schools like Traylor Academy also struggle with low test scores and rankings. Kaiser's statewide ranking has steadily declined over the years, from 649 out of 914 Colorado elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 701 out of 943 in 2023-2024, with a consistent 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The high poverty rates and underperformance at Kaiser suggest that socioeconomic factors may be playing a significant role in the academic outcomes of its students, and the school may benefit from targeted interventions and additional resources to address these challenges.

Open Quote Kaiser is truly the hidden gem in Southwest Denver! A small school atmosphere with caring staff who greet parents by name and really get to know each student and family. Led by a great leadership team, the school boasts two teachers for every grade and have the support staff, and programs to help students succeed. Kaiser also has programs for three and four year old children through Early Childhood Education Program as well as being a site for Mild-to-Moderate Autism Spectrum Special Education. Because of the additional programs, Kaiser boasts a full time Psychologist as well as a part time social worker. Kaiser has exceeded our expectations over the past few years, and I look forward to the next few. When looking for a school for your child, stop by and see the difference in person at Kaiser. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
