Rogers Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a student population of 295. The school's racial makeup is predominantly Hispanic (43.39%) and White (34.24%), with smaller percentages of other racial groups.

Despite being part of the Colorado Springs School District No. 11, which is ranked 66 out of 116 districts in the state, Rogers Elementary consistently underperforms on standardized tests. In the 2023-2024 school year, only 15.2% of students were proficient or better in English Language Arts (ELA), compared to 37.5% for the district and 44.1% for the state. In math, only 10.3% of students were proficient or better, compared to 29.3% for the district and 34.2% for the state. This pattern of underperformance has been evident across multiple years and grade levels, leading to the school being ranked in the bottom 15-20% of elementary schools in Colorado, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

When comparing Rogers Elementary to nearby schools, such as Columbia Elementary, which is just 1.87 miles away, the differences in academic performance are stark. Columbia Elementary outperforms Rogers Elementary across multiple subject areas and grade levels, with significantly higher proficiency rates in ELA and math. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students at Rogers Elementary, ranging from 73.47% to 78.77% over the past three school years, may be a contributing factor to the school's low academic performance. However, the data also suggests that there may be pockets of success, such as the school's performance on the 5th grade ELA assessment in 2022-2023, where 44.4% of students were proficient or better, indicating potential opportunities for improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son has been going to this school for almost two full school years. EVERY SINGLE ADMINISTRATOR AND TEACHER WE HAVE DEALT WITH ARE MORONS. They lie, they’re lazy, and when your child encounters issues(which they will) all you will ever get is confused looks and a pre filled out form response that just generically attempts to cover them from a legal standpoint. The current principal is more concerned with meeting metrics and bringing in more money, than she is with the education of any student. You have to write letters/call the school board and the state for them to take you seriously. Even then they just go into “damage control” and still nothing happens. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
