As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote A school for high middle class families! Rude leadership!

My nephew has attened Taylor Elementary for 4 years. He has developed a low self esteem and is worried about fitting in with other students. He has a good relationship with the teachers. School performances are crowded and have so many children on stage that it is difficult to see your childs performance.
As a relative, I have witnessted many scenarios in which a teacher, a school employee, principle or PTA member are disrespectful. Taylor Elementary is biased to families in high economic levels. 2018 PTA leadership is rude and is allowed to speak to parents disrespectfully and gouge families on events. The kids are forced to participate in fundraiser events such as Walk-A-Thon. The outrageously over priced events are difficult for all families to participate. Principle Gilbert follows the PTA leadership and doesn't offer much support or attend meetings.

My other nephew was passed through without doing the required work or making good grades. No child left behind....this school will push children out of the school without providing them with the education needed to succeed in middle and high school. Close Quote

Open Quote My grandson, who is in second grade has had the best three teachers in the last three years. They are young, vivacious and really motivated to help Lazarus. He loves going to school. He has homework, which will prepare him for the upper grades and the amount of homework involved as he climbs the elementary to high school ladder. It is not an overwhelming amount as I've seen in other schools. i do hope that the average students grades increase and the tests performed with the students continue to climb. Taylor has an incredible principal that motivates her staff. Close Quote

Open Quote We've barely made it though my daughter's first year of kindergarten here and I'm already ashamed I enrolled my daughter in this place. 6 weeks into school my daughter got lice. I know this is normal, so I shampooed her and sent her back. A month later, it came back. I found out the teacher and the school said nothing to any other parent, and refused to even after she got the bugs again. Since they didn't want to tell the other parents, I did. A few parents found lice, everyone got it cleaned and they went away.
Apparently her teacher, didn't appreciate me telling everyone what she refused to and she started picking on my kid. My daughter would come home crying almost everyday because she got into trouble, usually over something petty. I have a bad kid, this one is good, so I knew she was getting picked on. One day, she got in trouble for not putting something away quick enough, and got put out in the hall. My daughter yelled at her for being mean and she picked my kid up by the arms, carried her all the way to the office and threw her into a chair. After that we got her switched to the order, less skanky, kindergarten teacher and she's been doing wonderful.
The quiet only lasted a couple months. Today we were about 5 minutes late. I walk her to her class when she's late because you gotta stop by the office and sign in and get a tardy slip. We do this about once every other week. We're almost at the end of the school year, and just today some 2nd grade teacher wanted to stop me in the hallway for not having a hall pass. I WAS NOT the only parent in the hall dropping off their kid without a hall pass. The attitudes the teachers have make me nervous to leave my kid there all day. I'm so sick of the crap this school does. They say it's for the safety of the kids. ..which is definitely understandable, but why wait til the end of the year to say something?? Why not be a bitch to all the other parents??? Taylor Elementary is the worst school ever!!! Close Quote

Open Quote We love Taylor. The teachers and staff are highly competent and very approachable. I have always felt welcome in the classrooms, whether coming as a volunteer or with a question. Most important, Taylor teachers develop good relationships with their students, so that kids are really engaged and interested in learning. Taylor's specials teachers are also fantastic. My kids have had great experiences in art, music, and gym class. The school community overall is very welcoming. Parent engagement is encouraged and it is happening. Taylor has an active PTA that supports programming and organises lots of fun events throughout the year, like a Sock Hop, a Dia de los Muertos celebration, and Chocolate Art Night, to name a few. Even my somewhat shy kiddos felt right at home at Taylor from day one. One of my children recently said to me "I love first grade! I learn something new every day!" Close Quote

Open Quote We love the community feel of Taylor and truly feel that the parents and teachers are involved with daily activities. Our daughter comes home cheery and has stiroes of her engagment in both academic and play-based activities. As a kindergartner, our daughter has advanced in her understanding of reading and writing in the first two months and had made good friends. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has the most beautiful building in the district: gorgeous construction with lots of character, enormous windows, sun pouring in everywhere. The campus is extraordinary: bordered by a creek and two parks, there are three playgrounds and century-old trees. Other schools have better test scores which I attribute to a) a more uniformly privileged student body (look at the correlation between wealth and test scores) or b) teaching to the test. Taylor is a kind, friendly, encouraging, diverse school, truly the "district's best-kept secret." Close Quote

Open Quote Great School! We've been here 2 years and are excited for more!
The staff are fully supportive and involved in your child's' education and growth. The school-wide events are both fun and informative. The principal has both common sense and understanding; in the case of parent, student, and teacher support (when needed). Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
