Lotus School for Excellence

Summary:

Lotus School for Excellence is a public charter school in Aurora, Colorado that serves grades K-12 and has a diverse student population, with a high percentage of students (88.01%) qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Lotus School for Excellence consistently outperforms the Aurora Joint District No. 28 and the state of Colorado in several key test score metrics, including higher proficiency rates in 5th and 11th grade science, 5th grade English Language Arts, and 9th through 11th grade reading and writing. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 14.4 to 15.5 over the past three school years, which is lower than the nearby schools. When compared to other schools in the area, Lotus School for Excellence stands out as a high-performing institution, outperforming York International, Mapleton Online, and Vanguard Classical School - East in several academic areas.

Despite the socioeconomic challenges faced by its student population, Lotus School for Excellence is able to provide a quality education and consistently outperform the district and state in key academic areas. This suggests that the school is effectively supporting student learning and overcoming the challenges associated with a lower socioeconomic status. When compared to other high-performing schools in the area, such as Skyview Academy and Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County, Lotus School for Excellence still stands out as a strong performer in several key metrics.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Middle school teachers are not qualified by any means, most of them were hired when the school couldn't find qualified applicants. That is probably the situation in many other schools these days, but in Lotus, every middle school teacher has less than one year of experience as a teacher and 25 years or younger. The only exception is the Middle school Dean. Good luck kids. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
