Dartmouth Elementary School

Summary:

Dartmouth Elementary School is a public elementary school in Aurora, Colorado, serving 399 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Aurora Joint District No. 28, which is ranked 107 out of 116 districts in Colorado and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Dartmouth Elementary has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (45.36%) and African American (15.29%) students. However, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Colorado elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for the past several years. This is significantly lower than the nearby Cherry Creek School District schools, which are ranked much higher. Dartmouth's academic performance, as measured by CMAS test scores, is significantly below the state and district averages across all grade levels and subject areas, with only 24.7% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 44.1% statewide and 24.2% in the Aurora district.

Dartmouth's high percentage of students (over 70%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch indicates a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. The school's performance has declined over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 550 out of 965 Colorado elementary schools in 2018-2019 to 787 out of 943 in 2023-2024. Dartmouth's performance is particularly low for male students and Hispanic students, who rank in the bottom quarter of Colorado elementary schools in these subgroups. The nearby Arrowhead, Summit, and Mission Viejo schools in the Cherry Creek School District consistently outperform Dartmouth on academic measures, despite serving similar demographic populations.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I believe that Dartmouth has selected some of the best new teachers around. I feel so blessed to have what I feel are partners in my children's educations. I have read the scores but I don't think that this can be at the blame of the teachers and staff...I have witnessed time and time again lack of parental involvement and have experienced it myself in extracurricular activities. If you as a parent make an effort with your child's education then Dartmouth is a great place for your child to be. The only negative I can say is about the main art teacher - my kids and their friends have told me about their day in art and I am not impressed (cartoon watching?; heads down the ENTIRE classroom time because they weren't good in art earlier in the week)lazy art teacher not meant for elementary school if you ask me. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
