Victory Preparatory Academy Middle State Charter S

Summary:

Victory Preparatory Academy Middle State Charter S is a public charter middle school in Commerce City, Colorado that serves 165 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the School District No. 1, which is ranked 45 out of 116 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

Victory Preparatory Academy stands out for its high percentage of Hispanic students (over 90%) and its strong performance in English Language Arts, where proficiency rates exceed the district and state averages. However, the school struggles in Math and Science, with proficiency rates that lag behind neighboring charter and public middle schools like DSST: Montview Middle School and Aurora Science & Technical Middle School. The school also serves a high-need population, with over 80% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

While Victory Preparatory Academy has seen a decline in its statewide ranking in recent years, it has some bright spots, including strong performance by female students and Hispanic students. However, the school faces challenges in addressing equity concerns and improving its math and science instruction to better serve its predominantly low-income, minority student population. By learning from the practices of higher-performing nearby schools, Victory Preparatory Academy has an opportunity to provide a high-quality education that meets the unique needs of its community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote School cares only about test scores not the kids they have test day every Friday and have learning packets over all breaks and holidays. Children are always worried about their success and there is no time for socialization. There are no activities for the children outside of recess and there are alot of bullying issues. The Principal only concerned about one thing and that is his test scores and how much money he makes. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
