Early College of Arvada

Summary:

Early College of Arvada is a public charter high school serving grades 6-12 in Arvada, Colorado, with a student population of 208 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school's racial makeup is predominantly Hispanic (68.27%), followed by White (24.52%), Asian (4.81%), and smaller percentages of other racial groups.

Despite its unique early college model, Early College of Arvada consistently underperforms compared to the state and its charter school district (State Charter School Institute) on standardized test scores. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, only 12% of 11th-grade students were proficient or better in SAT Mathematics, compared to 35% for the district and 31% for the state. The school has a low statewide ranking, placing between the 193rd and 285th out of 349 Colorado high schools in recent years, and has received 1 or 0 out of 5 stars from SchoolDigger, indicating poor overall performance.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Denver Montessori Junior/Senior High School and Colorado Preparatory Academy High School, Early College of Arvada performs significantly worse on academic measures. The school's high percentage of Hispanic and low-income students may contribute to its academic struggles, but other nearby schools with similar demographic profiles, such as North High School and Arvada High School, outperform Early College of Arvada, suggesting that the school's challenges go beyond just its student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Going to ECA for all of my high school years was a great change and alternative from home schooling I was doing for middle school . ECA was a nice environment and most of the staff really care and are willing to help you. The small class sizes allow you to have more one on one help with a teacher if you needed it. However, you do need to put effort into the school work if you expect to get good grades. Since this school is a college prep school, it is important to be serious about your studies. Some people I have known didn't take school seriously and didn't even work half "you know what" so they opted for another school. It is not super difficult to get good grades here ,though, as long as you are willing to pay attention to lectures ,do your homework, and ask for help when you need it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
