Academically, Dr. Lawrence H. Moore's performance on standardized tests is generally below the Los Angeles Unified and California state averages across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts/Literacy ranged from 30% to 47.73%, compared to 41.21% to 44.18% for Los Angeles Unified and 42.8% to 47.37% for California. In Mathematics, the school's proficiency rates ranged from 29.21% to 45.56%, compared to 45.44% to 33.76% for Los Angeles Unified and 45.64% to 35.02% for California. The school's performance in Science is also below the district and state averages. Additionally, Dr. Lawrence H. Moore has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 10.8% in 2017-2018 to 32.6% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than nearby schools like Lillian Street Elementary (39.1%) and Hooper Avenue Primary Center (57.6%).

Despite these challenges, the data suggests that Dr. Lawrence H. Moore's Hispanic students and low-socioeconomic status students perform relatively better compared to the overall school performance. Additionally, while the school's performance is generally below the district and state averages, it appears to be performing better than some of the nearby schools, such as Hooper Avenue Elementary and Holmes Avenue Elementary, which have even lower academic proficiency rates. However, schools like Sixty-Sixth Street Elementary and Parmelee Avenue Elementary seem to outperform Dr. Lawrence H. Moore in both English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The parents in this community care a lot about their children's education and there are many parents volunteering in the school. There are many highly skilled teachers at the school who give of themselves to improve the lives of their students. We have highly efficient office staff and a principal that cares about students and families. My students have closed the academic achievement gap in language arts (performing on state-mandated tests at the same level as average white students in the state). Too bad websites like this don't show how substantially a child has grown while at a school. If so, this school would be one of the highest rated. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
