Maple Elementary

Summary:

Maple Elementary is a public elementary school located in Fullerton, California, serving 315 students in grades K-6. The school is part of the Fullerton Elementary District, which is ranked 498 out of 1,568 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Maple Elementary faces several challenges, including high chronic absenteeism rates, significantly underperforming academic results compared to the district and state averages, and wide achievement gaps among student subgroups. In 2023-2024, only 26.74% of Maple Elementary students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, and just 23.12% were proficient or better in Mathematics, lagging behind the Fullerton Elementary District and the state of California. The school's high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, reaching 89.84% in 2022-2023, and a relatively high student-teacher ratio of 26.2 may be contributing factors to its underperformance.

Interestingly, Maple Elementary's performance is consistently lower than nearby schools within the Fullerton Elementary District, such as Acacia Elementary, which is ranked 228 out of 5,862 California elementary schools and significantly outperformed Maple Elementary in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. The data suggests that Maple Elementary has significant opportunities for improvement, particularly in addressing the academic achievement gaps and supporting the diverse needs of its student population through targeted interventions and strategies to improve attendance and engagement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote We are very upset, that they don't seem to care about the self esteem of the kids. Our daugther has been bullied all year and when we brought it to the teachers attention, she said that my daugther was just in the wrong group. I'm talking about a 5 yr old and she found it normal to have bullies at this age.

We tried coaching our daughter to ignore and report these incidents, but she wasnt getting any help at school. So finally after being able to get time off from work I went into to speak with the principal and the office staff treated my husband and I like we were an inconvenience. To schedule our appt to speak the principal, she yelled at us from acroos the room, very rude.

Then still made us feel like it was our fault for waiting a month to come into the office to report it. She didn't seem to realize that it took my daughter awhile tell us again why she was upset all the time. I feel bullying should not be tolerated no matter how small it seems, because to my 5 yrs old its not so small.

My daughter used to love going to school, and now she doesn't. She even complains that her teacher doesn't like her. The few times I've seen her interact with her students, she seems annoyed.

If we are coming for help, we shouldn't be treated like we are ignorant. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
