Louis E. Stocklmeir Elementary

Summary:

Louis E. Stocklmeir Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school in Sunnyvale, California, serving 822 students in grades K-5 and part of the Cupertino Union School District.

Stocklmeir Elementary consistently delivers excellent academic results, with a large majority of students scoring proficient or better in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, significantly outperforming state averages. The school's performance is particularly strong for certain student subgroups, ranking in the top 22 out of 3,160 California elementary schools for English Language Learners and the top 60 out of 2,726 schools for White students. Additionally, Stocklmeir has relatively low chronic absenteeism rates compared to the state average.

When compared to nearby schools, Stocklmeir's academic performance is generally stronger, with William Faria Elementary, another Cupertino Union school, ranking among the top 4 and 1 elementary schools in California for ELA and Mathematics proficiency, respectively. However, Stocklmeir's ranking for Asian students is lower compared to other subgroups, and the school's chronic absenteeism rate has increased in recent years, though it remains relatively low. The school's low percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch suggests a relatively affluent student population, which may contribute to its strong academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is the ONLY school in the Cupertino Union School District with a "No Homework" policy. Teacher's love it, since it means they don't have to grade homework, but it is a horrible policy as far as actually helping the students grow, learn, and develop good long-term study habits.

The schools high test scores are most likely a result of the demographics (having a lot of parents who take the time and effort to teach their kids at home to make up for what is NOT taking place in the classrooms), rather than anything this school does. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
