Justin Garza High consistently outperforms the Central Unified School District and the state of California in standardized test scores, particularly in English Language Arts/Literacy, with 63.6% of 11th-grade students proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to 53.5% for the district and 55.73% for the state. However, the school lags behind the state average in mathematics and science, with 23.43% and 31.47% of 11th-grade students proficient or better, respectively. The school's diverse student population also shows varying performance, with Hispanic and White students performing well but Asian and Special Education students struggling.

While Justin Garza High outperforms nearby Pershing Continuation High School and Pathway Community Day School, it falls behind the higher-performing Design Science Middle College High School, which is part of the Fresno Unified School District. Additionally, the school's high chronic absenteeism rate of 23.4% and the fact that 74.98% of its students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch suggest that addressing attendance and socioeconomic factors may be crucial for improving overall school performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school is absolutely beautiful such a shame their Girls soccer frosh team has such horrible sportsmanship hopefully their coaches can correct it before they get a bad reputation in the district. After winning their game they began to yell racist and homophobic slurs at the opposite team while their coach did absolutely nothing about it. I do have to say their athletic trainer was absolutely amazing and very professional. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
