Anderson Middle

Summary:

Anderson Middle is a public middle school located in Anderson, CA, serving grades 6-8 with a total enrollment of 344 students. It is part of the Cascade Union Elementary District, which is ranked 1151 out of 1568 districts in California and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Anderson Middle faces significant challenges, with a sharp increase in chronic absenteeism, from 10.6% in 2018-2019 to 42.9% in 2021-2022, which is notably higher than the state average and the surrounding schools. The school's test scores are consistently lower than the state and district averages across all subjects and grade levels, with only 31.71% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts/Literacy and just 19.76% in Mathematics, compared to state averages of 47.04% and 35.54%, respectively. Additionally, the school's performance varies significantly across different student subgroups, with Native American students performing relatively well but White students and students with disabilities performing significantly worse.

When compared to the nearby middle schools, such as Berrendos Middle, Lassen-Antelope Volcanic Academy (LAVA), and Mountain View Middle, Anderson Middle consistently performs worse across a range of metrics, including test scores, chronic absenteeism, and student-teacher ratios. This suggests that Anderson Middle may face unique challenges or resource constraints that are not present in the surrounding schools. The high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, reaching 77.33% in 2022-2023, indicates that the school serves a predominantly low-income population, which may be contributing to the school's academic challenges.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The assistant principal just called me and yelled at me because my daughter couldn't get the tape off her camera to show herself on zoom. Apparently he thought he could treat me like one of his students and get tough with me. Im not a child. Im an adult. Wish I could say the same about the people who work at this school. He said they will not tolerate her behavior anymore and the superintendent has his back? Not sure why that was stated unless to deter me from going to the board, which I intend to do. I am appalled by the way they handled this. I have heard nothing but how terrible this school is and now i know first hand.. All of this because of tape over her camera. Bullies! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
