Desert Sage Elementary consistently ranks in the top 25% of Arizona elementary schools, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Mathematics are significantly higher than the state and district averages across all grade levels. As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Extremely unsatisfied. We relocated to the area from the far west valley and my daughter started 1st grade here. On many ocassions she was sent home with mis-spelt flash cards, she never had any homework, she told me that all they do is color and make arts n crafts. This isnt preschool or kindergarten. The teachers just leave the kids outside when they leave for the day (which is the second the bell rings) and many ocassions I found my daughter just wandering the campus alone even though school had only been out a few mins!! We're talking about a 7 year old! There are weirdos out there and when I brought this to the attention of the principal I was practically flagged as a "trouble maker". I never once had a parent-teacher meeting from August til I pulled her out in February! She used to make A+ grades at her previous school and it was FUN, she LOVED it. But here she was coming home in tears and being punished for "misbehaving" when all she did wrong was happen to be sitting at the wrong table with some rowdy kids, so the whole table was punished. Whatever happened to being interactive and involved with the students. The teacher wouldnt tie her shoes for her and told her to "do it herself". GOOD GRIEF PEOPLE! You chose this career, so get your head in the game! I ended up withdrawing her and sending her to her old school 40 mins away. And just in a few days she has done a 180 completely! Oh and her new teacher says her reading/writing and math skills are about the equivalency of a kindergartener! And shes supposed to be starting 2nd grade soon! Thanks Desert Sage! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
