Summary:

Anza Trail is a large elementary school serving grades K-8 in the Sahuarita Unified District in Sahuarita, Arizona, with a diverse student population of 1,223 students. The school has consistently ranked in the top 30% of Arizona elementary schools over the past decade, with a current 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Anza Trail stands out for its strong academic performance, consistently outperforming the district and state averages in proficiency across grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, 54% of 3rd graders at Anza Trail were proficient in ELA, compared to 46% for the district and 39% for the state. The school also ranks in the top 5% of Arizona elementary schools for African American students in ELA and the top 20% for Native American and multi-racial students. Additionally, Anza Trail has maintained relatively low dropout rates, ranging from 0.7% to 5.5% over the past 5 years, which is lower than the district and state averages.

While Anza Trail outperforms the other Sahuarita Unified District schools, the nearby Copper Ridge Elementary in the Vail Unified District outperforms Anza Trail in several areas, particularly for White and Asian students. Additionally, Anza Trail has a relatively low percentage of free/reduced-price lunch recipients (30.91%) compared to the other Sahuarita schools, suggesting it may serve a more affluent student population, which could contribute to its stronger academic performance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Leadership in the school district has some twisted perspective. While attending the White Elephant orchestra put on by SHS, WGH and Anza trail (K-8) there was a ridiculous skit about being gay but pretending to be straight, so they can get a part in a play. This skit leads into a suicide attempt, bullying tactics between a Manager and his subordinate. Ending with a petite female screaming ing the face of the (straight kid, acting gay, acting not gay) What a disgusting display and poor choice of tactics during a public showcase of the school my taxes pay for and kids attend. Open Quote Two stars says it all. That is just my opinion, though. Find out for yourself. Keep in mind if you have a valid issue, don't waste your time talking to admin. They are there to protect their school. As for safety for all as they preach, the school has a high level of bullying. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
