Valley View School

Summary:

Valley View School is an elementary school in Phoenix, Arizona, serving around 500 students in grades PK-8 as part of the Roosevelt Elementary District. Over the past several years, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Arizona elementary schools, with a SchoolDigger star rating of 1 or 2 out of 5.

Key challenges facing Valley View School include significantly lower test scores compared to the state and district averages, with only 28% of 3rd graders proficient in English Language Arts in 2023-2024 versus the state average of 39%. The school also experiences higher dropout rates, reaching 3.8% in 2021-2022, and a large majority (88%) of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. While Valley View School has performed relatively well for its English Language Learner students, it lags behind nearby Educational & Verma Pastor Elementary and Southwest Elementary in most key metrics.

Despite increased per-student spending, from $10,754 in 2018-2019 to $12,979 in 2021-2022, Valley View School has not yet seen significant improvements in student outcomes. Addressing the disparities in performance and improving overall student success will be critical for the school's future. While the school ranks highly for its African American students, it lags behind for Hispanic, Native American, and special education students, indicating a need to focus on supporting all student subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Valley View was a good school at the begining. When I found out more about the school thats when the issues started. Whenever there was issues nothing was done to help the students. Teachers seem care more about the extra activities and animales then the students needs. I would reccomend the school if some of the teachers where removed and more serious actions were carried out to misbehaved students. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
