Kenilworth Elementary School

Summary:

Kenilworth Elementary School is a public school in Phoenix, Arizona, serving 488 students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. The school has a diverse student population, with a majority of Hispanic students and smaller percentages of other racial and ethnic groups.

Kenilworth Elementary School has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Arizona elementary schools, with below-average performance on state assessments. The school's proficiency rates range from 5% to 54% across different grade levels and subject areas, which is significantly lower than the state and district averages. Additionally, Kenilworth has a high percentage of students from low-income families, with 70.7% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, higher than the state and district averages. The school's dropout rates have also been relatively high in recent years, ranging from 0.6% to 2.1%, which is above the state and district averages.

Compared to nearby schools within the Phoenix Elementary District, such as Paul Dunbar Lawrence School, Garfield School, and Capitol Elementary School, Kenilworth Elementary School's performance is generally lower, despite serving similar student populations. The school's funding and resources are comparable to these nearby schools, suggesting that factors beyond just funding may be contributing to the academic challenges at Kenilworth.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have been teaching at Kenilworth for the last 3 years and I have to say that it is a great place to be. Mr. Anthony (principal) has created an environment where all students know they are important. There have been so many great changes to the school that are showing in student growth, parent satisfaction and student and teacher retention. We are a Super Cool Family. Thinking and Learning are the primary focus. Students know they are safe and cared about by all staff. Close Quote

Open Quote Kenilworth in 2017 is MUCH different than a few years ago thanks to the leadership of Mr. Anthony and the dedicated staff. Every aspect of the school: the historic building, the "Thinking & Learning" motto, the clubs and activities (Robotics, Etiquette, K-Kids, Sports, Music, Art, PE, and more), the teachers, and the challenging curriculum is vital to the environment. As a parent, I have various options in the downtown area however, choosing Kenilworth is an easy choice - kids love being there. Having a voice in education is also important and I know the school is open to hearing me as a stakeholder. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
