Peoria Elementary School

Summary:

Peoria Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Peoria, Arizona, with 554 students enrolled. The school is part of the Peoria Unified School District, which is ranked 134 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Peoria Elementary School consistently underperforms compared to the district and state in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 37% of 4th graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 51% for the district and 46% for the state. The school has mixed performance across different student subgroups, with African American and English Language Learner students performing relatively well compared to their peers statewide, while White and Special Education students lag behind. Peoria Elementary School maintains a 0% dropout rate, likely due to serving only elementary grades, as the nearby middle and high schools in the district have higher dropout rates.

When comparing Peoria Elementary School to other nearby schools within the Peoria Unified School District, such as Copperwood School and Oakwood Elementary School, it becomes clear that Peoria Elementary School is underperforming. Despite spending more per student ($9,021 in 2021-2022) compared to the district average, the school's academic performance lags behind, suggesting that factors beyond just funding, such as teacher quality, curriculum, and school leadership, may be contributing to the school's underperformance.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I absolutely hated this school the bullying was ridiculous, I broke my thumb and because school just ended the nurse wouldn't even give me ice so i walked home with a broken finger, I went to get a drink and a water fountain FELL OFF the wall, they got rid of the accelerated program and the special needs program, there was never enough to eat and over all it's a ghetto school. My friend even came back from the nurse once with a makeshift band aid made out of tape and toilet paper. So unless you want them to despise their elementary years like i did please don't send your kid here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
