Kachina Elementary School

Summary:

Kachina Elementary School is a public school in Glendale, Arizona, serving grades PK-8 with a student population of 327. The school is part of the Peoria Unified School District, which is ranked 134 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

Kachina Elementary has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the years, dropping from a high of 345 out of 1,158 Arizona elementary schools in 2012-2013 to 465 out of 904 in 2023-2024, with a 2-star rating. The school's test scores are generally below the district and state averages across various grade levels and subjects, with its 3rd grade English Language Arts proficiency rate at 39% compared to the district's 44% and the state's 39%. Kachina Elementary's performance lags behind nearby Desert Palms Elementary, Marshall Ranch Elementary, and Pioneer Elementary, which have higher test scores and statewide rankings. Additionally, the local Legacy Traditional School - Glendale, a public charter school, outperforms Kachina Elementary across various academic metrics.

Kachina Elementary's increasing free and reduced lunch rate, from 30.86% in 2021-2022 to 58.72% in 2022-2023, suggests that socioeconomic factors may be playing a significant role in the school's academic outcomes. The school's spending per student has increased from $10,840 in 2019-2020 to $13,711 in 2021-2022, and its student-teacher ratio has risen from 12.1 in 2020-2021 to 14.8 in 2022-2023, indicating a focus on resource allocation and potential increases in class sizes. Despite these challenges, Kachina Elementary has maintained a relatively low dropout rate, ranging from 0% to 1.6% over the past several years.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Great school! Teachers have high expectations for their student. Close Quote

Open Quote All of the teachers that I have met are so dedicated and committed to their students. I see this each time I ‘bump’ into them dropping/picking Kaydence up or at a school function. Kaydence’s teacher are able to tell me certain attributes about my child that I thought I was the only one that knew. Your teachers are not only paying attention to their students but genuinely care about them to take the time to really get to know them. Even the music teacher that sees Kaydence once a week has mentioned to me, “Kaydence is quite the vocalist. Keep up the great work!” The fact that so many staff members address my daughter by name clearly demonstrates their commitment to their students.

• From you the leaders of the school to the crossing guards and lunch ladies, nothing but smiles. ALL THE TIME! I feel that the smiles really set the tone for the environment and attitude of the day. Smiling at work = you love what you do = you are great at what you do = each student WINS!

Our family’s experience here at Kachina has been anything but ordinary and nothing less of superlative! I couldn’t ask for better, more passionate, dedicated or hardworking teachers for my children. Close Quote

Open Quote I am a single parent who didn't know what to do until I moved in with family/friends.
My daughter last year was struggling in a charter school last year and now she is doing better then great this year at Kachina.
She has lots of friends, she very helpful in the classroom, her teachers have all told me she is such a delight to have.
I have given Katchina 5 stars because the staff, anytime I've gone on campus I have never had any trouble. The teachers are great they will call you with bad and good news to let you know how your child is doing.
I'm not only a parent of my child at Kachina I was also a student many years ago at the same elementary school.
I see the changes the school has made over the years and I think how technology is great that what I did and didn't have my daughter is going to get from all the advancements we have now then we did 15 years ago. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
