Madison Park School

Summary:

Madison Park School is a public middle school located in Phoenix, Arizona, serving grades 5-8 with a total enrollment of 424 students. The school is part of the Madison Elementary District, which is ranked 97 out of 288 districts in Arizona and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Madison Park School consistently underperforms compared to the Madison Elementary District and the state of Arizona in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 17% of 5th-grade students at Madison Park School were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 47% in the district and 38% statewide. The school has a low statewide ranking, consistently placing in the bottom half of Arizona middle schools, and struggles to serve certain student subgroups effectively.

Despite the school's challenges, the nearby schools, such as Madison Meadows School and Madison #1 Elementary School, perform significantly better academically and have higher statewide rankings, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that factors beyond just student demographics may be contributing to the underperformance of Madison Park School. Addressing these issues will require a comprehensive, data-driven approach to ensure that all students at the school have the resources and support they need to succeed.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is absolutely horrible! If you think your child is safe from being bullied by a teacher or students, than I highly recommend you stay far away from this school! The principal Mrs. Rodriguez will turn her back on your child and will defend the teacher who is bullying. The Assistant Principal will sit next to the principal and not say one word to defend your child. The counselor, Ms. Santos will also call your child out for "what he/she did wrong" instead of finding out what truly happened and then call you and act like everything is fine. The Assistant Superintendent Barbara Marshall, will tell you that the issue will be investigated and that you will be informed, only for you to wait 20 days later after you had to email her to find out what's going on, to be told that "appropriate actions have been taken" and because it's a "personal matter" she can't go into detail of what took place. Also, your child WILL be exposed to very inappropriate behavior with the other students...making sexual sounds during class and drawing disturbing pictures. Your child will also be exposed to possibly being made fun of and being hit or slugged out of the blue by a student walking by...and you guessed it, most of the teachers do nothing. My son has been bullied by Mr. Jones on different occasions and he was humiliated by him in front of the whole classroom. NO CHILD should ever come home crying because of a teacher! NO CHILD should be left to feel like he was lying or that he made up a story. NO CHILD should feel unheard, especially by the ones whom you think you can turn to. I am disgusted to the core and I warn all parents to reconsider enrolling your child at this horrible school! I do thank God that my son had one teacher Ms. Montoya, who was there to bring a smile on his face when he was feeling his worst. I just wish that there were more teachers like her in this world and especially more like her at Madison Park. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
