Vista del Sur Accelerated

Summary:

Vista del Sur Accelerated is an exceptional elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Laveen, Arizona, part of the Laveen Elementary District. With a diverse student population, the school consistently outperforms the district and state in academic assessments, ranking among the top elementary schools in Arizona.

Vista del Sur Accelerated's academic performance is truly remarkable. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science were significantly higher than the district and state averages, with some grades reaching over 90% proficiency. This strong academic achievement extends across different student subgroups, with the school ranking among the top schools in the state for African American, Hispanic, and White students. Additionally, the school maintains low dropout rates, indicating a commitment to supporting student success.

Compared to nearby schools within the Laveen Elementary District, Vista del Sur Accelerated stands out as a standout performer. While the district and state struggle with lower proficiency rates, Vista del Sur Accelerated consistently outpaces its peers, often by 20-30 percentage points. This success is particularly noteworthy given the school's relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting that the school's academic excellence is not solely driven by socioeconomic factors. When compared to nearby charter schools, Vista del Sur Accelerated also demonstrates its ability to provide a high-quality education for a diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is fantastic, starting with great leadership, the principal to all the teachers. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Vista. I feel so blessed and very proud to have my child as a student there. The children get quality education. The teachers keep communications with us so that we know what our children are doing in the classrooms, how to help them and just how hardworking the teachers are. The principal genuinely loves the students and is passionate about what she does. She recruits top talent - teachers who are just as passionate. The teachers really challenge my daughter, not to mention, I feel so safe leaving her in their hands. This is her third year. She attends before and after school care and they are great too. Seriously, you would have to be in the environment in order to understand why I love them all. Let me not forget the hard working ladies at the front desk are terrific. I am a super proud Vista parent. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
