Summary:

Homer Davis Elementary School is a public elementary school in Tucson, Arizona, serving 411 students in grades K-6. The school is part of the Flowing Wells Unified District, which is ranked 183 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Homer Davis Elementary consistently underperforms the district and state averages on standardized tests for English Language Arts and Mathematics across all grade levels. The school also struggles to support its subgroups, with many ranking in the bottom quartile of Arizona elementary schools, particularly for African American, Native American, and English Language Learner students. As a result, Homer Davis has been consistently ranked in the bottom quartile of Arizona elementary schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger for most of the past decade.

Interestingly, the nearby schools, such as Laguna Elementary, Centennial Elementary, and Douglas Elementary, all perform better than Homer Davis on academic measures, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that factors beyond student demographics may be contributing to the underperformance of Homer Davis. Additionally, the school ranks highly in supporting its military-connected student population and performs relatively well in supporting its homeless and foster care student populations.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Homer Davis use to be a great school, students thrived there paresnts loved helping out. But all that changed since they got this ner principal Mr.Miller who has no people skills what so ever and sits on a high horse like he can say and do no wrong and he is always right. There is a BULLING PROBLEM at this school, but according to Mr. Miller there is not, he does not believe that kids can bully here. I know first hand he just sweeps it under the rug. This school has gone from an A+ to a C. With our last principal Mr. Brett Bonner he was awesome and great. He knew how to talk to parnets and students. My son get targeted by his teacher and Mr. Miller who will believe everyone else but my son or the truth. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
