Vector Prep and Arts Academy

Summary:

Vector Prep and Arts Academy is a public charter elementary school serving 220 students in grades K-6 in Chandler, Arizona, which is part of the Chandler Unified District #80. Despite relatively high funding, the school consistently performs below state and district averages on standardized tests, with proficiency rates ranging from 10% to 24% across English Language Arts and Mathematics.

The school's diverse student population includes a majority Hispanic (44.09%) and significant populations of African American (20%), Native American (20.91%), and White (6.82%) students. Interestingly, African American and Native American students perform better than the overall school, ranking in the top half of Arizona schools in these subgroups. However, Hispanic and low-socioeconomic status students perform significantly worse, ranking in the bottom quarter of Arizona schools. The school has also seen a decline in the percentage of White students over the past few years.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Knox Gifted Academy, which ranks 1st in the state, Vector Prep and Arts Academy performs significantly worse. This stark contrast in performance, despite relatively high funding, suggests that the school may be facing systemic issues that need to be addressed through improved leadership, instructional practices, and targeted support for underperforming subgroups.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This is the worst school My child went to. For one many of the teachers constantly scream at the students and there is a lot of emotional abuse as well. We spoke to the principal 5 times of these teachers and nothing was done at all!! Instead they feel the teachers are free to teach and punish the class as they see fit The Pe Coach made all the students stand outside in 114 degree for 30 minutes with their back packs on all because a few children were misbehaving. Most of the staff is not attentive to students needs and the students are more like $$$ signs!! Sure the school sounds great because of all the arts they offer but it comes down to there are so many unethical things going on in this school. This school NEEDS to be shut down!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
