Amphitheater High School

Summary:

Amphitheater High School is a public high school in Tucson, Arizona, serving 1,163 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the Amphitheater Unified District, which is ranked 150 out of 288 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Amphitheater High School faces significant challenges in improving its academic performance and student outcomes. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Arizona high schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. Its academic performance is significantly below state and district averages, with only 15% of 11th-grade students proficient or better in English Language Arts and 9% proficient or better in Mathematics. The school's 4-year graduation rate of 67.7% and dropout rate of 9.1% are also concerning compared to state averages. Additionally, the school has a high percentage of students (79.88%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a significant socioeconomic disadvantage.

Interestingly, the schools in the immediate vicinity of Amphitheater High School, such as Alternative Computerized Education (ACE) Charter High School and Pima Partnership School, also perform poorly, with low graduation rates, high dropout rates, and subpar academic achievement. This suggests that the challenges facing Amphitheater High School are not unique and may require a broader, community-wide effort to address educational inequities in the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The Cambridge program is a TOTAL waste of time. UK math and science subjects are supposed to be taught in UK English to match the Cambridge exams. Using US English teaches confusing vocabulary and brings poor test results. Neither UA nor PCC give any credits for Cambridge IGCSE exams.Sure, you can get a Grand Canyon Diploma, but neither UA nor PCC accept that either.

Cambridge Math students are confused when doing AZMerit exams, which are given in US English, a different language than UK English.

Some excellent teachers, but very poor World History, Math and English teachers.

A school to be avoided at all costs.. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
