Adventure School

Summary:

Adventure School is a public charter elementary school serving 123 students in grades K-8 in Tucson, Arizona. The school is part of the Tucson Unified District, which is ranked 231 out of 540 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating.

One of Adventure School's key differentiators is its racial diversity, with a higher percentage of Hispanic students (56.91%) compared to the state average of 45.3% and nearby schools. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by standardized test scores, is generally lower than the state and district averages. For example, in the 2022-2023 school year, the percentage of students proficient or better in English Language Arts ranged from 25% to 50%, compared to the state average of 37% to 45%. In Mathematics, the proficiency rates ranged from 19% to 60%, compared to the state average of 27% to 43%. Additionally, Adventure School's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from 269th out of 1079 Arizona elementary schools in 2015-2016 to 647th out of 1245 schools in 2022-2023.

Another interesting finding is the significant variation in performance across different student subgroups at Adventure School. For example, Asian students ranked 1st out of 620 Arizona elementary schools in 2020-2021, while African American students ranked 810th out of 895 schools in the same year. This suggests that the school may be struggling to support the academic needs of certain subgroups. When compared to the nearby public schools, such as Hudlow Elementary School and John B Wright Elementary School, Adventure School generally performs at a lower level in terms of standardized test scores and school rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Last school year, 2017-18 was a terrible year. However there were changes in 2018-19 and the kids and teachers were great. My student did great in 3rd grade but 4th she had a hard time. Her teacher, thankfully gone now, was horrible. 5th grade she again did exceptional in all her work. The administration and teachers care about all the kids and make sure they are learning and growing. I highly recommend this school. The test scores this year will make a difference to their score here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
