Skyview High School

Summary:

Skyview High School is a public charter high school located in Buckeye, Arizona, serving grades 9-12 with a student population of 175 as of the 2022-2023 school year. The school's student body is predominantly Hispanic (60.57%), followed by White (23.43%) and African American (10.86%) students.

Despite being a public charter school, Skyview High School consistently ranks in the bottom quartile of Buckeye Union High School and Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies, which are nearby schools with higher academic rankings, better graduation rates, and stronger test scores. Skyview High School has received a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, indicating very low academic performance, with extremely low four-year graduation rates ranging from 28.5% to 46.6% and high dropout rates ranging from 15.2% to 26.6% in recent years.

Skyview High School's test scores are significantly lower than the state averages across various assessments, including AzSCI/Science, AASA/English Language Arts, AASA/Mathematics, and ACT, with proficiency rates often less than half the state averages. Additionally, the school has a very high percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with 73.71% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. Despite these challenges, there is no clear trend of improvement in the school's academic metrics, graduation rates, or test scores over the years, and the school's rankings and ratings have remained consistently low.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Skyview High School provides a thorough curriculum, dedicated teachers, and optimistic staff and students who believe in success for all students. The focus is a small structured environment and rigorous expectations, that result in student graduation. Close Quote

Open Quote The only thing holding up this school is the meager, dedicated staff they employ. There is a reason that this school has large turnover in its staff. Very few of the staff has been with this institution for the long haul. The staff, parents, and sudents freely gossip about what is wrong with this school - the leadership. The "leadership" of this school is so very backhanded, twofaced, unprofessional, and unhelpful that they drive their own good teachers away. If the "leaders" say anything to you, be sure to get it in writing. Students are not lying when they say they were told something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT by theirs "leaders". Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
