Challenger Basic School

Summary:

Challenger Basic School is a high-performing public charter elementary school in Gilbert, Arizona, serving students from kindergarten to 6th grade. The school has consistently ranked among the top elementary schools in the state, with a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Challenger Basic School's academic performance is exceptional, with 80% of 3rd and 4th-grade students proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to the state averages of 39% and 46%, respectively. In mathematics, the school had 72% of 3rd-grade students and 87% of 6th-grade students proficient or better, far exceeding the state averages of 43% and 30%. While the school's student population is relatively homogeneous, with a majority of white students, nearby public schools like Greenfield Elementary and Patterson Elementary also demonstrate strong academic performance, particularly in English Language Arts.

The absence of data on the school's free and reduced-price lunch rates makes it difficult to assess the socioeconomic diversity of the student population. Additionally, the school's student-teacher ratio is not provided, which could be an important metric to consider when evaluating the educational environment. Overall, Challenger Basic School is a high-performing public charter school that has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, though the lack of diversity and socioeconomic data may be areas for further exploration and improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I love everything about this school. The teachers are amazing and I love that it is a small school so the teachers know all the kids. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter has gone to Challenger for two years now. Her experiences in Kindergarten and First Grade have been above and beyond my expectations. She has learned the skills needed to be a hard working independent student. Her confidence level is high because she has the tools she needs to be successful. Her teachers have always been there to support her and guide her. I am absolutely thrilled with the education my daughter is receiving at Challenger. Close Quote

Open Quote We loved our first year at CBS. The fourth grade teacher was amazing...very disappointed in the lack of skills with the fifth grade teacher....she uses sarcasm with the students which is inappropriate.....we probably won't be staying....the husband/wife principles support the teachers no matter what the concern or problems. That can be very difficult. Our child has been experiencing serious anxiety and we may have to pull her out. :( Disappointing. But, loved the fourth grade there! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
