Montessori Charter School of Flagstaff - Campus

Summary:

Montessori Charter School of Flagstaff - Campus is a public charter school serving 170 students in grades K-8 in Flagstaff, Arizona, which is part of the Flagstaff Montessori District. The school consistently performs above the state average in both English Language Arts and Mathematics proficiency, and has maintained a strong statewide ranking, placing in the top 25% of Arizona elementary schools for several years.

One notable aspect of the school is its academic performance, with the 8th-grade ELA proficiency rate at 60% compared to the state average of 37%, and the 8th-grade Math proficiency rate at 40% compared to the state average of 27%. The school has also shown particularly strong performance among its Native American student population, ranking 28 out of 219 Arizona elementary schools for this subgroup. However, the school experienced a significant increase in its dropout rate, from 0% in previous years to 10.7% in the 2021-2022 school year, which is an area of concern that the school should investigate and address.

While Montessori Charter School of Flagstaff - Campus outperforms the state average in academic proficiency, it is not the highest-performing school in the immediate vicinity. Haven Montessori Charter School, located just 1.57 miles away, has consistently higher rankings and proficiency rates in both ELA and Math. Additionally, the school reported $0 in spending per student for the 2018-2019 school year, which is significantly lower than the nearby public schools in the Flagstaff Unified District, suggesting that the school may be operating with limited resources compared to its counterparts.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrible administration! Principal instructed teacher to have students from all three 3rd grade class go into the restroom without gloves and with chemical spray bottles to clean another students feces off the wall. They were sent in without supervision with chemical. Once I found out about this incident I asked that they notify all the other parents and they refused to do so for over 4 months. Once they did come to terms to inform the parents the entire story changed. The original owners sold the for profit business to another individual but signed on as the management company for the California based owner. This was to help change the image of the school. Same people running it so there is no change only new paint.

Thanks

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
