Summary:

Crystal Hill Elementary is a public elementary school in North Little Rock, Arkansas, serving 504 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Pulaski County Special School District, which is ranked 173 out of 252 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Crystal Hill Elementary consistently underperforms the state and district averages in proficiency rates across all subjects and grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (29.6%), Reading (31%), and Mathematics (22.8%) are significantly lower than the state averages (33.8%, 34.1%, and 36.4%, respectively). The school's performance has been declining over the years, with its statewide ranking dropping from 122 out of 466 Arkansas elementary schools in 2014-2015 to 346 out of 497 in 2023-2024. Additionally, Crystal Hill Elementary has an extremely high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 96.03% to 100% over the past three school years, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Oak Grove Elementary School in the Pulaski County Special School District, or Forest Park Elementary and Jefferson Elementary in the Little Rock School District, Crystal Hill Elementary's performance is significantly lower across all academic areas. The high percentage of economically disadvantaged students and the declining statewide ranking indicate the need for a comprehensive approach to address the school's systemic issues and provide targeted support to its students.

Open Quote Don't ssend you child here unless you want them to be bullied. My daughter was bullied all year by a group of boys and the school did nothing to stop it. One boy went as far as to threaten her on Instagram of course they said they would look into it but nothing. This school is basically run by a group of preteen wannabe gangsters, that the so called adminstration has no controll over. I am proud to say that this is my daughters last year at this terrible school and I just wanted to warn other parents. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
